Benefits of Using a Doula During Birth

Women with doulas have a lower rate of c-sections and epidural use.  They also average a shorter delivery time.  Women with doulas are more likely to be satisfied with their birthing experience and have less stress during delivery.

  • 31% reduction in pitocin
  • 28% reduction in risk of C sections
  • 12% increase in spontaneous vaginal births
  • 9% decrease in medication for pain
  • 14% in risk of newborns admitted for special care
  • 34% reduction in the risk of being dissatisfied with birth experience

Anyone can have a doula whether one is an anxious mother or a first time mother who feels a need for extra support.

There is a wide range of cost for doulas.  There are many medical insurances who are now covering the cost of doulas.  Most doulas also have negotiable fees as well.

Doulas are great to help dad through labor and delivery as well.  Moms-to-be are often not the only ones who may need extra support.  Doulas are in the room to help fathers remain calm and teach them ways to soothe and support the mother during her birthing journey.

Four Pillars of Support

Alizeti Doula Services provides four pillars of labor support to the mother/family.  Physical, Emotional, Informational, and Empowerment.

Physically I will provide pain management exercises to the mother such as counter pressure and Rebozo.

Emotionally I will accept what the mother wants in her birth plan and help her to work through any fears and doubts.

Information is important in order to make confident decisions about birthing choices.  I will provide educational information to the mother/family about the course of labor and any evidence-based information about birth options.

Empowerment (Advocacy) will be encouraged to all mothers/families.  All will be encouraged to ask questions about maternal development and service levels of care.  I will support the mother’s birth plan decisions and will advocate for those decisions to be implemented.
